How do updates to permitted development impact camping in the countryside?

Since the Pandemic, the domestic holiday market has boomed, with people across the country venturing to the South Hams to explore our amazing coastlines and rivers, expansive moors, and picturesque towns and villages.
The government have subsequently recognised the need to support the local tourism industry for the benefit of the local and national economy and provide opportunities especially for agricultural diversification.
From the 26th of July, Parliament have amended Permitted Development rights to allow landowners/farmers to temporarily use land for recreational camping for up to 50 pitches for 60 days in any calendar year, more than doubling the previously permitted 28 days.
The new Permitted Development rights require the provision of toilet and waste disposal facilities, and the landowner must notify the Local Planning Authority in writing before the commencement of development in each calendar year.
There are a few exceptions of where the Permitted Development right is not permissible, including the site of a Scheduled Monument, a Safety Hazard Area, Military Explosive Area, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and the site of a Listed Buildings.
